Keep Lifestyle diseases at bay





What are lifestyle diseases? The easiest way to describe it is- Lifestyle diseases are those that are caused by the wrong ‘choices’ we make in our lives.Choices like food, exercise and erratic schedule.

According to a recent study, it has been observed that millions of people between the age group of 30-70 die every year due to lifestyle diseases. Lifestyle diseases include diabetes, sleep disorders,obesity and cardio vascular diseases.Following a healthy lifestyle will cut down the risk of lifestyle diseases by a great extent.

Given below are few tips to improve your lifestyle choices.

1.       Food- Include green vegetables, fresh fruits and fibre rich foods. Eat whole grain or multigrain flour. Avoid eating big portions of food. Instead opt to eat every 2 hours. Avoid junk food and drink plenty of water.

2.       Walk-  Keep moving. Take the stairs instead of lifts and elevators.Take your pets for a walk daily. Take short walks post a meal. Play with your kids and burn extra calories.

3.       Exercise- Managing your weight is important. Meditate, do yoga or go for a walk every day.One must exercise for at least 30 minutes every day. Obese people will benefit a lot by exercising.

4.       Reduce the intake of sugar, oil and salt in your diet. They can cause diabetes, high cholesterol , blood pressure and heart diseases.

5.       Regular Health checkups- Your health is in your hands. Go for regular health checkups to rule out any kind of ailment.Early diagnosis of any treatment will help in getting timely treatment.
