This can be harmful and cause inflammation of the abdominal cavity.

 Symptoms of appendicitis

Appendicitis normally occurs due to a blockage in the lining of the appendix. The blockage can occur when the appendix gets inflamed in case the body suffers from an infection or due to some foreign particles or even stool.

Treatment
Appendicitis is normally treated through surgery known as appendectomy. The doctor will recommend some antibiotics before the surgery to avoid any infection.
Incisions of about 2- 4 inches is made in appendectomy.Appendectomy is advantageous in cases where  the appendix has ruptured ,spreading the infection and causing abscess.Appendectomy allows the surgeon to clean the abdominal cavity better.Laparoscopic surgery can also be used to treat appendicitis. Laparoscopic surgery is less painful and ensures a quicker recovery. It is beneficial for elderly patients and obese patients.
It is recommended that a person does not leave appendicitis untreated as a ruptured appendix can cause peritonitis.Peritonitis can spread into the abdominal cavity and can be life threatening. Consult a gastroenterologist at Kharghar Medicity Hospital and prevent damage to your appendix!

Does your child pass urine in small quantities, frequently?Does he experience a burning sensation while urinating?Your child may be suffering from Urinary Tract Infection.Urinary Tract Infection affects the urinary tract. Early treatment is the best solution to it else it could lead to serious health complications.

What causes Urinary Tract Infection?
Urinary Tract Infection is a common infection that affects children.Generally E- Coli bacteria cause urinary tract infection but children with poor toilet hygiene can also contract urinary tract infection. Some viruses and fungi may also cause urinary tract infection.
Symptoms like burning sensation while urinating, cloudy urine and blood in the in urine can help detect urinary tract infection.
Treatment
The child specialist would first analyze the urine sample of the child. He would then prescribe certain anti –biotics.Once the child completes the entire course of antibiotics , the child specialist would again analyze the child’s urine sample to check if the infection has cleared .
In case the child suffers from pain while urinating, a pain killer would be recommended that would help in numbing of the lining of urinary tract.
Normally children respond well to the antibiotics and recover within 2-3 days of consuming it.However, in certain cases; a child may have to be injected with the antibiotics through his veins. In case a child suffers from severe urinary tract infection, he may have to be hospitalized.
Urinary Tract Infection can lead to kidney damage if left untreated. It is therefore advised that a child is monitored closely and any symptoms of urinary tract infections must be immediately brought to a pediatrician’s notice.Visit the pediatrician at Kharghar Medicity Hospital to know more details.

Blood Donation and its benefits

Every year, 14th June is celebrated as World Blood Donor Day by several countries worldwide. By donating blood one can save a life.Donating blood not only helps someone in need but it is beneficial to the donor too.

What is blood donation and who can donate blood?
If you are healthy and weigh above 50 kgs, you can donate blood.Several people lose blood in accidents and surgeries.Such people require blood. When a healthy person donates his blood for such causes,it is known as blood donation.

A human being has about 5 litres of blood in his body.Oxygen, nutrients , hormones and other essential food is transported to cells of our body through blood. Blood provides immunity, regulates body temperature and helps in blood clotting.

A person can donate blood about 3- 4 times a year.

What happens in blood donation?
About 350 ml of blood is withdrawn from the donor with the help of surgical needles and other materials. The donated blood is then checked for its group type, other unhealthy pathogens and other infections.Once everything is cleared, only then the blood is given to the person in need.

Benefits of Blood donation

2.       Blood donation helps in reduction of excess iron from the donor’s blood. This helps in preventing heart diseases as excess iron leads to oxidative damage which may cause heart attacks.
3.       Blood donation helps in weight reduction. The donor loses about 650 Kcal while donating blood. This becomes another good reason to donate blood.
4.       Blood donation helps in removal of excess iron which helps in preventing cancer.

Suffering from Sleep Apnea?

Sleep Apnea is a condition that affects your breathing while sleeping. Frequent and loud snoring are some indications of sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is treatable but it is often unrecognized due to its subtle signs. In this blog, learn to identify the warning signs of sleep apnea and treatments to overcome sleep apnea.

Sleep apnea is of two types:
1)      Obstructive Sleep Apnea- This occurs due to compression of muscles found in the back of the throat.
2)      Central Sleep Apnea- This occurs when the brain does not send signals to the muscles which control breathing.
.
Treatments
Mild Apnea can be treated by making certain lifestyle changes like losing weight, avoiding consumption of alcohol and by quitting smoking. Incase the condition deteriorates; one will have to look for other treatments. We have listed a few of the treatments in this blog.
1.       CPAP or Continuous Positive Airway Pressure- In this treatment a special mask is used over the nose or mouth while sleeping. The mask is attached to a machine which will supply air to the nose. This allows the airways to remain open during sleep.
2.       EPAP or Expiratory Positive Airway Pressure- These are special valve like devices which are placed over the nostrils. These can be used only once. These valves allow free movement of air especially while exhaling. This helps in keeping the airways open.EPAP helps in reducing snoring and makes a person less drowsy during the day time.
3.       BPAP or Bi- level Airway Pressure- These devices are similar to CPAPs except that BPAPs provide more pressure while inhaling and less pressure while exhaling.
4.       Oral Appliances-These oral appliances help in keeping the throat open.Oral appliances are beneficial in reducing mild sleep apnea and snoring.
Although sleep apnea can be cured by the methods discussed above, they  may fail in some cases. In such cases the doctor would prescribe surgical methods. One must treat sleep apnea before it could develop high blood pressure or diabetes.
